Most people have a love/hate relationship with January.  It’s a dreary, cold month; we are bombarded by diet talk, going dry and all the fun stops because no one has any money.

Whereas some people love it, it’s the time of new beginnings, resolutions,  a time for reflection and thinking about what you want to achieve.

I fall firmly into the ‘love it’ camp and always have done.  I love the excitement, imagining that the New Year is like the blank pages of a book.  I can write them however I wish, dream up whatever plot I’d like and it’s all within my power to achieve.

So what’s my story going to be this year?  I want my year to be a year of learning.  When you have children you are so focussed on helping them to learn and grow, often you forget about yourself.  You can forget that the world is going on around you and is constantly evolving.  You have a mind, a brain that needs training and nurturing but most of the time this is bottom of the list of priorities and never ends up happening.

So my commitments for Chapter 1 of my book of life are going to look like this:

To schedule in 1 hour per day to learn.  I don’t want to be more prescriptive than that, because there is so much I am interested in, it’s too hard to narrow down.

In practise this is what that may look like:

  • Attending a training course
  • Reading a non-fiction book
  • On-line training
  • Keeping up to date on news through apps like Feedly
  • Using the Mastermind course I have joined to open my mind up on new areas

These wouldn’t suit everyone because they are so wide, but that works for me.  I hate failing and if I don’t manage to book on a training course for X or read a particular book I don’t want this to demotivate me.  Learning excites me and I want it to be fluid whether it happens at 9am in the morning or 9pm at night!

These goals will help to enhance my knowledge and therefore enable me to give my clients a better level of service.  They come to me because they need ‘more time’ and if I can give the enhanced ‘more time’ everyone’s a winner!

I’ll keep you updated on the exact topics I’m covering and share as much knowledge as I can.

I’d love to know what your story might look like this year?
